Welcome Parents!

As we wind up the school year, here is how we will be handling the disposition of laptops in the various grade levels, and for those who are graduating or leaving our district:

Laptop and Hotspot Returns

Moving students
Students in grades 3-12 who are moving and will no longer be attending RSU #71
Please return the device at your earliest convenience to Belfast Area High School between the hours of 7:30-2:30pm. Leave the device, charger, and case (if there is a case) on the white laptop cart in-between the inner and outer doors of the high school main entrance.

High School
Seniors will turn in their Chromebooks on June 9th and 10th along with other materials.

Returning underclassmen will KEEP the chromebooks but will turn in books/ pick up locker materials starting June 15th. Underclassmen who will no longer be attending Belfast Area High School WILL return their chromebook along with any books.

Middle school
7th & 8th Grade: We will need to collect ALL of the Macbooks this summer. Troy Howard MS will be open during the week of June 8 through June 12 from 8:00am to 12:00pm for parents to drop off the Macbooks. In the lobby there will be tables labeled by homeroom for parents to put their child’s laptop.

6th Grade students will KEEP the chromebooks over the summer - these chromebooks will be swapped out for Macbooks at the beginning of the new school year. Please click here for some guidelines for the use and care of the chromebooks over summer.

Elementary school grades 3-5
Students will keep their chromebooks over the summer and bring the devices to school with them at the beginning of the school year.  Please
click here for some guidelines for the use and care of the chromebooks over summer.

Elementary school grades K-2
K-2 students were not assigned take-home devices during the remote learning session. Devices will be made available should we need to continue remote learning in the fall.

The RSU71 provided hotspot for remote learning will be deactivated on June 30 but all hotspots must be returned anytime after June 5 once school work is done. Students in grade 7, grade 8, grade 12, or who are leaving the district (see above) can return the hotspot with the laptop being returned to the school. For students in the other grade levels, please return the hotspot to Belfast Area High School in the main entrance - there will be a table for the returned hotspots.

Thank you for your assistance and help as we move into the summer and begin preparations for the next school year.

Teachers in RSU 71 continue to work on developing plans that will support continued education for our students at home over the next few weeks.
These plans include both low tech (paper and pencil/minimal materials K-2) as well as high tech (websites, Google Classroom, Learning Applications/Grades 2-12) activities that reflect routines of teachers’ classrooms that can easily be followed by students at home.
Hard copy packets/plans are available school-by-school as needed.
Consistency, predictability, and personal responsibility (chores/helping out at home) are also key for our learners. Here is a suggested schedule to may help your household plan for learning at home days.
