RSU #71 Moves Toward Zero Waste

posted Dec 11, 2018, 11:15 AM by Betty Lu Davis
A student group known as BRRR (Belfast Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) has been an integral part in helping the district move toward zero waste.
Like many school districts around the state, the kitchen in RSU #71 have made great strides to reduce organic and solid waste. One goal of the district is to source as much food as they can locally, and make most meals from scratch. Local, homemade meals reduce the need for plastic packaging, and sourcing food locally reduces the carbon emissions for each meal. Not only that, the district composts, recycles, uses metal silverware, reusable trays and had eliminated plastic straws.
Kudos to BRRR, and RSU #71 School Nutrition Department.
